Good acoustic separation is a system, not a single product. Mass, cavity and decoupling all play a role.
Mass and layers
Every additional board layer adds mass and reduces transmission. A double layer on each side, with staggered joints, noticeably outperforms a single thick board.
Cavity and insulation
Filling the stud cavity with mineral wool and separating the two sides with independent framing breaks the direct sound path and improves the weighted sound reduction index.
